There are many low-tech tools available with recording abilities. The ProxTalker is a unique low-tech device that has the capability of a high-tech device at a more affordable cost. Anyone who can use a picture exchange communication system (PECS) can use this, and it has voice-output. There are standard words included but it has the capability to be customized by a computer or with the recorder that is in the device. There is no need to change levels or re-record each time a student changes to a new environment. Each picture has its own radio frequency and when placed on the device, the appropriate sound, message, or word will play when activated. The device is rugged and durable, runs on four standard C batteries and has USB connectivity to save and push sound files. This is another innovative device which will increase independence and cut down on programming time for caregivers.
