Assistive Technology for Mathematics

Website: wati.org

This is the 8th chapter of the Wisconsin Assistive Technology Initiative's guide, “Assessing Students’ Needs for Assistive Technology (ASNAT) 5th Edition. Like the rest of the ASNAT guide, this chapter, “Assistive Technology for Mathematics,” uses the SETT framework to help IEP teams identify appropriate tools and strategies for students.

Using the problem identification charts and step-by-step explanations in the SETT framework, “Assistive Technology for Mathematics” addresses common misconceptions about math difficulties, guides the IEP team through the SETT assessment, then summarizes different physical or digital tools and strategies before teaching the team how to prioritize, choose, and implement the best tools and supports for the student’s needs.

Ed. Note: For more information about the SETT framework, type the term into the FCTD website's search field. There is quite a bit of information about it from the framework's developer, Joy Zabala.
