Spotlight on Twilight

Website: spotlightontwilight.pbworks.com

Often children with and without disabilities are reluctant readers. The popularity of some book series that have eventually become movies can be successfully used to motivate children to read. Sometimes students with disabilities are not able to read at the reading levels of the published books. Some may have difficulty accessing and understanding text-to-speech books without some simplification and preparation of storyline and characters.

This is a PBWorks website that provides a set of adapted books, reading guides and activities based on the Twilight series of books. It was developed for a classroom of students with significant disabilities. It includes adapted versions of the books, character analyses, Boardmaker overlays, tactile representations of characters, and a myriad of worksheets for Literacy, Math and Social Studies. Students will find these materials appealing; authors of the materials got permission to use real photos from the popular movies. Links to recipes and games for classroom or individual use are also included.

This is not only a terrific site for accessing literacy and other activities with a guaranteed 'cool factor'; it can also be used as a guide for creating other units using different titles.
